Self-Explanatory, As a single NSF file is just instructions sent to an emulated 2A03. as such, they takes up way less space than the average ogg file.

We've actually attempted this before and ran into some engine-side issues that made it not worth it to pursue. We were definitely licking our lips at the massive file size decrease, so it's pretty unfortunate.

is it mainly with the music player used? I was curious on this too since I saw it mentioned in the 8BDM server once

To elaborate on what Korby mentioned, when we were experimenting with this, we noticed that the NSF audio would sound different across different devices and overall sounded "wrong" in comparison to our current tracks and emulated versions. In addition, Zandronum's NSF player has a slight, noticeable hiccup on switching tracks, which means we wouldn't be able to use NSFs for boss music without suffering from pauses in audio.
This might be something we explore again if Zandronum's NSF player gets noticeable improvements / changes, but for now I'm going to close this thread out and move it to rejected.
